A spirited display against Manchester City has given West Ham something to build on for Saturday’s game with Chelsea. You can see some semblance of a plan and the players showed a great deal of desire, Rice was outstanding, having Antonio back was a real plus and Masuaku offered an attacking threat on the left. Despite the positives, West Ham still ended the game without the points and we are starting to be cut adrift in the bottom three. We need something out of the next two games desperately, it’s a tall order of course but Sunday’s performance should give a little bit of confidence to the players. Eden Hazard has been outstanding in recent games and does tend to perform well against West Ham, stopping him will be key. Alvaro Morata is in great form in his first season in English football but West Ham’s defensive shape looked great against City and it will be tested to the limit again this Saturday.
Adrian has to keep his place after Sunday, like much of the team Joe Hart looks shot, lacking in confidence and making awful decisions Hart looks like he needs a break. Adrian brought positivity and is a real leader, something West Ham desperately need.
I am one who feels Antonio could play up front, his pace and power is a real asset to the team giving them an out ball and keeping the opposition defence honest. I don’t see West Ham having much of the ball at all so they must be clinical from set pieces and ruthless with any chance that comes our way. The atmosphere at the stadium will play a part if West Ham start well the crowd will get behind them and on the rare occasion that has happened in the new stadium the crowd have played a part. Gallant defeat is all very well but West Ham need points and quickly, December will prove a crucial month and getting a win against the champions will give everyone the lift they need. It could happen, fingers crossed it does.
