Live Blog: David Moyes’ Pre-Watford Press Conference Live From Rush Green

Press Conference Live Blog

That’s it from us here at Rush Green Training Ground, where Moyes has spoken ahead of Sunday’s Premier League trip to Hertfordshire, thank you for joining us this afternoon and do make sure you join us again from around 5 PM this evening as we make the short journey over to The London Stadium for The U23’s clash with Derby County in The PL2 with another Live Blog, we hope that you can tune in and until then, thank you and goodbye.

On Sunday’s Opposition:

” They have a player who is making the difference in Richarlison, and everything is going very well behind the scenes also”.

” Watford are playing well, their Football has been smooth and they are in a very healthy League position”.

On Drawing Comparisons Between His Time At Everton And His Time Here So Far:

“I think when I likened it, I was drawing parelell to the supporters and the club, I do think that West Ham have an awful lot going for them”.

On His First Week And A Half With The Players:

” The players have been comitted to what we have been telling them to do, the players have grasped it and got on with it,  they’ve embraced it as well”.

On Marco Silva And The Job He Has Done So Far:

” I think that what he has done at Hull and Watford is the reason why, he showed he can work in The League and he’s had great success with his teams at home especially and I think he has started very well in this Country”.

” I think it can become a situation that brings a bit of uncertainty and I certainly hope it does, I think Marco Silva has come in and done a great Job at Hull and at Watford, that’s why, if you do good Jobs then you get linked to the big Jobs”.

” And I’ve got Watford and I have to get a team prepared that will put on a show and get us a result”.

On His Managerial Career Thus Far:

” Well, I can go back about the old days or talk about the future, I could talk about winning Manager of the Year three times a row or getting the biggest Job in the World, being one of the only British Managers to have a Job in Spain, but now, it’s time to stop talking about that and start talking about what’s next.

” But, he also has to be a team player and I have to say in the clips, he hasn’t looked like a team player, he isn’t the only one that I would say that about, I think other players have to do the work for the team if they are going to be part of it”.

On Club-Record Signing Marko Arnautovic:

” I can’t comment on the earlier games, I can only go on what people are telling me and that is that he hasn’t come up to the standard of what he set when he was at Stoke City, I watched him and I thought he was the sort of player that you would never be keen to come up against, if you were a full-back because of his power, strength and what he can do”.

On Striker Andy Carroll:

” But, if you’re talking about Andy Carroll, then who wouldn’t want to have him in the box? And get the ball in the right areas to him? We have to use him and we have also got other strikers that play a different way and want the ball in different ways”.

” For me, I want to get the best out of the players and how can I get the best out of them? What they would see as their best positions”.

On The Responsibilities Of His Players And Working With Them Early On:

” I have managed to have group and individual conversations with them and I’m hoping, the ones that come back, I can do the same with them”.

” We have been doing a lot of work this week without two or three key players, but it’s the same for every club, you get International Duty and your players don’t get back till later on, but being Manager it has given me the chance to get to know the U23 players and get to know the boys that are here”.

” they’ve got to take responsibility for their actions now, they can’t always be saying, The Manager has to do this and The Manager has to do that, let’s see what you can do yourself”.

On Our Slow Start Under Slaven Bilic And The Pressures Of Modern Football:

” I wouldn’t ever be critical of anyone before, but the players have told me what they think, and we will give them what they think they need to get better”.

” I think it’s all the same, the World of Football is in this pressure now, if you are in it, you know where it’s coming from and that’s what you do, it’s different from where it was when I started 15 or 20 years ago, but it’s what you do now”.

On Reaching 500 PL Games:

” I would like to get to 1,000 games, not many have made that and it would be a great achievement if I could make that, at no matter what level”.

” It will become harder and harder to get to those levels, but I don’t necessarily take my own personal milestones as important after you finish you maybe look back”.

Injury News Ahead Of Sunday:

” We’ve got a few injuries, so it will mean that I will bring one or two players with me up to The Senior Squad, the best thing is that they have been involved in the sessions, getting to know both the first-team players and myself, I am getting to know one or two of them”.

” The only reason that they are not up today is that they have their own game tonight, I will go and have a look at them”.

” We have had The U23s training with us for the last week and a half now”.

” I think everybody knows he (Chicharito) has a hamstring injury, it could take a week, it could take two weeks, at the level we are at, we’re not sure, it’s only when we get them back running that we know whether it will be a bit longer or he will be fine”.

” None of them trained, the rest of the boys are back and in amongst and hopefully they will be ready”.

” So, I’m expecting both to be fit for the game”.

” Today, we had some of the players returning, Winston Reid flew in and so did Diafra Sakho”.
