How much of an effect has Michail Antonio’s injuries had on his performances?
Since Michail Antonio’s hamstring injury against Tottenham has seen a dip in his performances and even his fitness. Antonio made his latest appearance against Crystal Palace after coming on for Pablo Zabaleta to play at right wing back.
Some fans will blame Antonio for West Ham conceding a late goal after he played a poor cross into the box that was easily cleared by Palace’s defence which lead into a counterattack that resulted in Wilfried Zaha’s equalizer.
Michail Antonio has looked very sluggish when he has played recently as well as not looking as energetic and powerful as he had been before his injuries. It is very concerning for the team how Antonio doesn’t look like he is able to finish a full 90-minute game anymore which is very worrying how his fitness has managed to drop so much in just over a month.
It looks as if he has been rushed back from injury to quickly and that he needs just a few weeks of focusing on his fitness before he will be able to complete a full game under Slaven Bilic.
He had also suffered a rib injury against Brighton & Hove which may have affected how he has played recently due to it possibly hurting him as well as it being harder to breathe.
I don’t think Antonio even knows what his strongest position is due to the manager keep playing him in various positions. He has played as a right wing-back, left wing, right wing and even striker so far, this season. In my opinion, Michail Antonio’s best position is on the left-hand side of the midfield when he is able to cut back and cross on his stronger right foot.
