Where Are They Now? Blair Turgott

Highly and widely regarded as the future talent of West Ham United, Blair Turgott had a lot of weight to carry on his shoulders during a long spell with The Hammers Academy.

But, why did the youngster’s career in Claret & blue end so prematurely? Will the bright starlet ever be able to fulfil his true potential? And, more importantly, where is he now?

Blair Turgott

Born in South London and joining his boyhood club at the age of eight years old, the speedy young winger caught the eye of Scouts, Coaches, and agents from a very young age indeed.

Around that time, he also appeared in the West Ham themed 2006 film Green Street, playing in a team of young Academy kids who are charged with scoring goals past Hollywood star Elijah Wood.

As he progressed through the various levels of a Premier League Youth System, Turgott continued to impress, being offered regular new Contracts by the club.

In 2012, he embarked on his first exciting loan spell with Bradford City, helping them to complete an extraordinary Cup run, eventually losing in the Final under Phil Parkinson against Swansea City.

Further spells away from East London would follow for the attacker, turning out for Colchester United, Rotherham United and the closer to home Dagenham & Redbridge.

His Hammers debut would finally come in early 2014 amidst a first-team injury crisis in the infamous 5-0 FA Cup loss to Nottingham Forest, where Sam Allardyce’s starting Xl consisted almost entirely of youngsters.

However, just as his Career was progressing the way he liked, the England U19 star was released midway through the 2014/2015 season, having his dreams of playing in The world’s top League dashed.

Like many others, upon release he was picked up by a team from the lower Leagues, in his case, Coventry City came calling and he signed a short-term deal, that subsequently ended that summer.

After leaving The Midlands, Turgott was given another chance back in East London with League Two Leyton Orient, where he would be a regular under Ian Hendon, but eventually made the step to Non-League in the hot summer of 2016.

His assignment was with home Town club Bromley in The National League, back in South London, he would flourish, enjoying a wonderful season.

Turgott even managed to get himself back into the England set-up, being selected for England C, a Three Lions side entirely made up of English Non-League talents.

However, the end of the 2016/2017 campaign would be very mixed indeed for the former Hammer.

In April, he was charged with fraud, robbing an elderly gentleman to the tune of almost £17,000 by using his Credit Card at a Casino, just months before a huge break in his Footballing Career.

During pre-season, Turgott appeared in The Sky show mapping the progress of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy and his V9 Academy.

It was through this enterprise that the electric attacker managed to win a Professional Contract with League Two side Stevenage. Although being loaned out to Boreham Wood back in The National League for another season.

Blair Turgott may have slipped through the cracks of West Ham United, but there is no denying his determination to get back to the very top, however, at the age of 24, can he still realise his Top-Flight dream?
