In Matchday Eight of The PL2 Division One season, Terry Westley’s young Hammers make the trip to face Chelsea, with an opportunity to go level on points with reigning Champions Everton in second place.
The hosts head into the tie off the back of a disappointing 1-3 home loss to Swansea City last Friday, whereas, our Hammer starlets are brimming with confidence following a thrilling 4-2 victory over Manchester United at The London Stadium.
The tie will kick-off at 12:05 PM this afternoon (Sunday 22 October 2017), and as with all Development Squad games, there will be no mainstream Radio or TV coverage of the clash.
However, for live build-up, updates and reaction from Hampshire, be sure to head over to @MooreThanAClub on Twitter.
The clash is due to take place at National League side Aldershot Town’s Electrical Services Stadium, also known as The Recreation Ground.
Opening in 1927, it has a capacity of just over 7,000 and has been the home of The Shots since their formation in 1992, hosting The Blues’ U23 matches on and off from 2004, today will be the second time that Westley’s Boys have visited the Venue.
Terry Westley is expected to have the duo of Marcus Browne and Martin Samuelsen back from injury to ease his worries heading into the visit.
However, more long-term absentees Domingos Quina and vice-skipper Moses Makasi will be missing from the travelling squad, meanwhile, first-teamer and captain Declan Rice is expected to start.
Whereas, Adrian Viveash has no such worries ahead of a vital home clash, as he possesses a fully fit Squad at his disposal.
Bright young stars such as brother of Eden, Kylian Hazard, England U19 Dujon Sterling, electric midfielder Jacob Maddox and brother of Nathaniel, Trevor Chalobah are all expected to be among the starters.
The Development Squads of Chelsea and West Ham United have only met three times since the original re-shuffle of Football at that level.
The overall record makes for even viewing for both sets of fans, balancing the scales nicely for an interesting affair later today.
Out of the triple header of fixtures, the two sides have both come away with all three points on one occasion and there has been a single draw, albeit a 3-3 thriller in November 2013.
In the last meeting, Westley’s men edged a 0-1 away victory over The Blues at Stamford Bridge, with Josh Cullen earning all three points for his Hammers side late on.
Chelsea U23’s are widely regarded as being one of the most talented Development Squads in all of World Football, despite sitting ninth in The PL2 Division One Table after an underwhelming start that has seen them record only one win.
However, under an experienced Manager in Adrian Viveash, their form is expected to pick up at some stage and they certainly have the pedigree to suggest a good run of form can’t be too far away.
Their most recent success came in the form of a Premier League U21 Title in 2014, but at U18 level, The Blues have picked up such Trophies as The UEFA Youth League and FA Youth Cup in the past few seasons.
Famous products of Antonio Conte’s famous Youth System include the likes of Robert Huth, Ryan Bertrand, Nathan Ake and John Terry with more historic notables including great names such as Jimmy Greaves and Graeme Le Saux.
So, with all of today’s action well and truly Previewed, can the young Hammers cause another upset and make a huge step towards the top of the Table in Aldershot?
Or, will the hosts finally find their mojo to record an important victory that could see them up to seventh place? All will be revealed in a matter of hours’.
