Live Blog: West Ham United U23s vs Derby County U23s: PL2 Division One Matchday Ten Live From The London Stadium

Matchday Live Blog

9:30 PM: Unfortunately, we were unable to grab a word with Westley after his side’s embarassment tonight, so, that’s it from us tonight here at The London Stadium, thank you, as ever for tuning in to both this Live Blog and the one at Rush Green earlier in the day as David Moyes spoke to the Media, it’s been a long one, but we have got there and I hope that you can join us again next week as the new Gaffer speaks before next Friday’s home tie with Leicester City, thank you and goodnight.

8:55 PM: The clock runs down and the game draws to a close here at The London Stadium, what a night it has been for Derby County, we hope to bring you some reaction from Hammers Manager Terry Westley in the near future, stay tuned………..

Full-time: West Ham United U23s 1-5 Derby County U23s.

A Kemp header sails just wide, is that the last action?

Trott does well to clear as the visitors’ danger man lurked.

Four minutes have been added on at the end of a very disappointing evening here in East London.

Nearly! Diangana almost gets his second, hitting the bar from close-range, agonisingly close.

Like many this evening, it’s cleared with relative ease and nothing can be made of the aftermath.

Tunji Akinola tackles Zanzala well to deny the forward a chance to get a hat-trick, whilst the hosts win a corner at the other end.

Wassall makes his second alteration as scorer Thomas is taking off in favour of Lewis Walker.

Martinez almost gets to a looping ball through, but Derby clear their lines.

Fans are beginning to flood out of the London Stadium exits, they have seen enough as Diangana tries his luck once more and can only find the stanchion, still 1-5.

If things stay as they are, Derby’s win will take them a point behind Arsenal in fifth, and we will stay in fourth after a massive blow to the goal difference.

Big chance, Haksabanovic is played through on goal but Barnes saves and Martinez can’t get to the rebound.

Martinez is finally ready to return, a relief for the Hammers Boss as he has used all of his substitutes.

The corner goes all the way through for a goal-kick, while The No9 struggles on the side of the pitch.

In amongst the action, the Spaniard went down and has stayed on the turf, this looks worrying for Westley.

Even closer! Martinez again fires just wide, this time his deflected effort hits the side netting.

Darren Wassall makes his first change of the evening as Max Bird replaces Charles Verman.

Westley and his Assistant Liam Manning are standing broad on the touchline, they won’t quite believe how this game has panned out, nor will David Moyes and Alan Irvine, who are sitting below me in The Director’s Box.

Close! Martinez turns and fires a shot inches over the bar, it was so nearly 2-5 here.

Powell launches a free-kick in that is punched away, the home side certainly have the momentum.

GOAL!! 1-5!! Finally, something to cheer as Diangana pulls one back for the young Hammers, can they force an incredible fightback? Only four more to score.

I certainly spoke too soon as Samuelsen is played through.

Apart from Coventry firing over from range, there has been little action in the last couple of minutes.

Samuelsen tries to find a way through, stern defending denies him, however as Haksabanovic curls a low effort that is held onto by Barnes, all the home side in the last ten minutes.

Irish youngster Anthony Scully is going to be Westley’s final change of the evening, replacing Johnson, it has been a tough night for him.

Martinez goes down in pain and wins a free-kick for his troubles, Diangana reaches it at the far post, seeing his header blocked as Derby break and the ball is cleared.

Zanzala bursts through but is flagged, he has proved a real handful for the West Ham United defence tonight.

The Irons pressure is proving too little too late in this affair, although there is still a chance to make the scoreline look a bit more respectable, as Martinez pokes the ball wide.

Westley will now make his second change of the evening as Grady Diangana takes the place of Kemp, just as Martinez hits the bar with a wondrous effort, so unfortunate!

Close! A defensive header from the set-play appears to strike the bar and the further corner causes no danger.

Better still from the hosts, with Coventry forcing a corner.

Powell looks for a lifeline, but his cross evades Martinez, the atmosphere has gone very flat indeed inside this vast Arena.

The starlet was able to finish the rebound of a Trott save from just inside the box, it’s turning into a case of how many can you score? From a Derby point of view.

Incredibly, it’s 0-5 as The Rams net a fifth through Jayden Bogle, this could end up being very embarrassing indeed for Westley’s boys.

The first substitute of the night is upon us as Conor Coventry replaces Pike.

Martinez goes in The Referee’s book, the first player to do so tonight, what a disaster this has been for the hosts.

Goal for the visitors, 0-4! Game over here in Stratford as Charles Verman finishes off a quick County break.

A better start from the young Hammers, but no clear chances yet.

Early pressure as Johnson crosses, but again, his delivery is under-par.

8:04 PM: The players are out for the second period here at The London Stadium and Kemp gets us underway, can Westley’s boys comeback from three goals down?

A dismal first period for Terry Westley and his side as a brace from Offrande Zanzala and a Luke Thomas finish in between have given the visitors a comfortable lead here at The London Stadium, will there be a reply from the young Hammers in the second-half?

Half-time: West Ham United U23s 0-3 Derby County U23s.

Two minutes added on at the end of this half, can The Hammers pull one back before the break?

A clever Martinez dummy plays Kemp in, but again, nothing is produced.

Close! The Norwegian’s dipping effort curls just over the bar.

Samuelsen breaks well with quick feet to win a threatening set-piece, a way back in perhaps?

Quina tries to pick out the No11 again, but he can’t get there before Barnes.

Haksabanovic is able to get in behind he turns well, however, is unable to pick out Martinez, Westley’s boys need a goal and fast.

County break again in search of a fourth, but the danger is cleared momentarily, a frantic few minutes here.

Goal! 0-3, just when it looked like we were mounting a comeback, The Rams are able to net a third, with Zanzala getting to the rebound of an effort which struck the bar.

Close! Samuelsen gets his head to it and his effort goes just wide.

Haksabanovic drives it in low and Pike gets a shot in on goal that is blocked off the line for another corner, which Martinez wins another from.

Things looking a bit better for Westley’s boys as Martinez gets to the byline before Quina is able to win a corner.

A Hammers break looks promising until Haksabanovic gives it away, the Montenegrin has been quiet tonight.

No real action to speak of presently as we approach half-time here in Stratford.

Johnson is found on the right in attack but he can’t deliver and The Rams break, however, Westley’s defence does equally well.

Martinez’s frustration up front is clear to see as he lunges in and is spoken to by Lachlan Keevers, after sparking up needle with a County defender.

Pike, again the defensive rock, does well to prevent a pass playing Zanzala in.

Finally, a decision goes the way of the home side as Jonson is fouled but little comes of the set-piece.

County go forward again, looking for a third, Pask clears again.

With a win tonight, the Claret & Blue starlets could have gone second, but that now looks very unlikely, 0-2.

Goal!! speak of the devil, the visitors have snuck two to the good here, with Luke Thomas striking home past Trott from the right side of the box, a nightmare start for Westley’s boys.

They are prevented from doing so as The Hammers clear.

The team in luminous yellow have a corner, a chance to double their lead?

It seems like every time the side in Claret & Blue come forward they give away a free-kick, Sead Haksabanovic is the offender this time.

The visitors get into a promising position on the left side of the area, but Pask gets in the way of a cross.

Domingos Quina looks bright and comes forward again, however, a poor pass hands the away side the ball back.

Pask does well to find Powell on the left, but the full-back’s delivery sails out for a goal-kick.

The visitors break and just can’t get in behind, some solid Hammers defending there.

Encouragement finally for Westley’s boys as a dangerous attack leads to Josh Barnes needing to parry a Powell effort and just get to a ball before Kemp shortly after, all action here.

Trott nervously clears his lines, the visitors have been in total control so far.

Quina does well to clear out for a throw but Derby are still on the attack although Ben Johnson has just gotten rid of the danger.

The hosts are starting to grow back into the game as Dan Kemp gets in behind but cannot produce.

Antonio Martinez does well to break but when the ball eventually finds Samuelsen, he is flagged offside, better from The Hammers.

Westley’s boys look a real shadow of the team they have been in recent weeks, struggling to keep anything without star man Nathan Holland, who tore his hamstring last week and usual Skipper Rice.

County look dangerous on the break again but Alex Pike is able to thwart their attack.

The young Hammers are currently dwelling on the ball in midfield, looking to build a reply.

There couldn’t have been more than 20 seconds on the clock when Zanzala burst through to beat Nathan Trott.

Terry Wesley’s men have a knack for conceding early and they have done it again here, what a start for the away side!!
