Carabao Cup Preview: The Quarter-Finals: Irons Clash With Gunners As United Travel To Bristol

We are into the Last Eight of the 2017/2018 Carabao Cup campaign and what a round of matches lay ahead, as the Hammers travel to the Emirates for a London Derby and the Robins entertain the possibility of a giant-killing at home to the Red Devils.

Leicester City vs Manchester City (Tuesday 7:45 PM)

To kick-off Tuesday and Wednesday night’s action, the Foxes play host to the Citizens in an all-Premier League matchup in the Midlands, at the King Power Stadium.

Claude Puel’s men will be looking to put League disappointment, in the form of a 0-3 home loss to Crystal Palace, behind them quickly, they defeated Leeds United in the last Round to get to this stage.

Meanwhile, fresh from thrashing Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening, Pep Guardiola’s visitors are brimming with confidence less than two weeks after breaking the PL record for most consecutive wins, although they did require penalties to overcome Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out in this Competition.

Both teams will look to their danger men to try to clinch them spots in the Semi-Finals, for the home side this will be Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez, and the visitors, on-form playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, City are the favourites.

Glanville’s Prediction: 0-2.

Arsenal vs West Ham United (Tuesday 7:45 PM)

Elsewhere tonight, the clash at the Emirates promises to be a feisty one as it always is in this local matchup, as David Moyes’ Irons got toe-to-toe with Arsene Wenger’s Gunners.

The hosts were last in action three days ago, getting the better of Newcastle United in the PL and like the Citizens, partly relied on fortune to get to this stage of the Tournament, young substitute Eddie Nketiah scoring twice to down Norwich City.

There was nothing fortunate about the way that the Claret & Blue Army reached the Quarters, coming from two goals down to stun Tottenham at Wembley Stadium, they also netted three on the road in their last League match at the Bet365 Stadium.

These two faced off with each other less than a week ago in the Top-Flight, on that occasion, they were locked in a 0-0 stalemate at the London Stadium, but will this one be a slightly higher-scoring affair?

Glanville’s Prediction: 2-0.

Chelsea vs AFC Bournemouth (Wednesday 7:45 PM)

And onto tomorrow night’s spoils and thrills, starting at Stamford Bridge in West London as the Blues entertain the Cherries, the Round’s third all-Premier League encounter.

Antonio Conte’s side are in superb form despite putting in some shaky showings recently, Southampton being their latest victim at the weekend, although it was a slim margin of victory at 1-0, in October, they bested Everton to make it to this stage.

Whereas, Eddie Howe’s visitors have just struggled a tad in the League this campaign, this was personified by a 0-4 loss to Liverpool at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday, however, memories of overcoming Middlesbrough by an emphatic scoreline will give them an added boost.

There have only been a staggeringly low ten past playing’s of this fixture, eight of which have been won by the Pensioners and only two by the team from the South Coast, but can they pull off a shock?

Glanville’s Prediction: 3-1.

Bristol City vs Manchester United (Wednesday 8 PM)

To cap of the Quarter-Finals, the Red Devils make the lengthy trip down to the South West to clash with the Robins in what is surely set to be the most intriguing tie of the Round.

Lee Johnson’s side currently reside in the Championship and are the only non-PL team left in the Competitions and are in good form too, most recently defeating Nottingham Forest and another Top-Flight team last time out to the tune of 4-1, the Eagles.

United go into the tie off the back of successive one-goal victories in the League, over West Bromwich Albion and Bournemouth, overcoming a team from a similar region in Round Four in the form of Swansea City, they’re the major favourites.

Both the hosts and visitors possess potential match-winners in their ranks, the likes of Bobby Reid and Joe Bryan will be ones to watch for the home sides, whilst City will be well weary of visiting Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford in attack.

Glanville’s Prediction: 0-3.
