Is Carlos Bacca good value for money?

Transfer News

As many may know, West Ham’s bid for a top striker this summer has been a case of bidding a lot of money but being rejected at every opportunity. However, it now seems that a striker is on his way to the Hammers from Milan. But what do we know about Carlos Bacca?

Carlos Bacca is a 29 year old striker from Columbia who has played for various European clubs in the last four years including Sevilla and AC Milan. His goal scoring record for Milan is good with 18 goals in 38 appearances in his only season at the club. His main strengths are that he is pacey, is aggressive and has very good determination, which all sounds very good indeed.

One thing that worries me is the price. It has been reported that the fee is around £26 million which is a gain of £5 million for Milan when they bought him from Sevilla. This fee will almost double West Ham’s record signing of £15 million for Andy Carroll and considering Bacca is 29, will West Ham be able to get enough service out of him to justify paying such a huge price? Also, I have heard he is demanding the same wages as Payet, so can we afford to pay both men the top wages at the same time?

In conclusion, I think Bacca is a good signing for the club as he is a top quality striker who has proven himself within Europe over the last 4 years. The price and the wages may be a bit of a worry but if he manages to score a hat full of goals, I will happily withdraw those criticism. Also, this shows the power West Ham can now pull in the transfer market so things will certainly be looking up for years to come.
