What a strange week it’s been for West Ham, well beaten at Brighton after an abject performance, we have signed Patrice Evra and unrest continues to grow amongst the fans. I have said it before but West Ham need to decide what sort of club they want to be, our transfer policy is scattergun at best and we are constantly given mixed messages from the board. Amongst the growing turmoil David Moyes has emerged with a great deal of credit, he has fashioned a threadbare squad into a team that can compete in the Premier League. When you compare our attacking options to those around us, we are very short even before injuries. Our defence is ageing and we sign too many square pegs for round holes. Watford come to the London Stadium full of confidence having absolutely destroyed Chelsea on Monday night with Gerrard Deulofeu outstanding. West Ham do not have a good record against the Hornets and it will take a monumental effort to get something out of this game. West Ham will be boosted by the imminent return of Arnautovic but he will not be fit so I would rather start him from the bench. Options are so limited that I can’t see many changes from Brighton, we are only 4 points off the relegation zone, a win would give us some breathing space.
Hernandez should keep his place in the team, he is a pure goal scorer and I think this might be a very tight game with very few chances. If we get one it’s essential we take it. West Ham desperately need some good news, I can see the atmosphere in the ground becoming toxic very quickly if we start sluggishly, the team need to start on the front foot quickly to get the crowd onside. If we don’t do that it could be a very long afternoon this Saturday.
