2:30 PM: Unfortunately, that’s all we can bring you this afternoon here at the club’s Training Ground as Manager Moyes has now finished addressing us, but you can stay where you are for all of our build-up to tomorrow’s League clash between Huddersfield Town and West Ham United and continued reaction to today’s Press Conference, right here on www.moorethanjustaclub.com.
I would like to thank you for joining us on this chilly January day and I sincerely hope that you can be with us early next week as we hope to bring you yet more Live Blogs of Moyes’ Pre-Shrewsbury Press Conference and then live coverage of the FA Cup Third Round Replay itself at the London Stadium on Tuesday night, I’ve been your host Luke Glanville, have a fantastic rest of your days and weekend, goodbye.
On The Challenge Of Huddersfield Town:
“Huddersfield have done great and I think that Huddersfield and Brighton have thrown the gauntlet down to a lot of teams because they have got off to such a good start in the Premier League, I think what its meant is that there are a lot of teams thinking that they could maybe be teams near the bottom.
I think we’re all trying to grab them back and bring them back into the pack and if we could beat Huddersfield, we could certainly do that, we’d have Huddersfield back in amongst us”.
On Injury News Ahead Of Tomorrow:
“We’ve had quite a lot of injuries, we’ve got a few who will make it back and we’ve got a few who there are still doubts about.
I think this time in the season, especially in January as well after the amount of games players have played, every Premier League Club, you couldn’t be quite sure who is going to be fit and who is not going to be fit, but what I would say is that we’ve got a few coming back for this game”.
On The Run Of Fixtures Ahead:
“I think it is a really important period for us, we have come through a difficult period and when I joined the Club, I was aware of a couple of games at the start, then we went into a sort of heavy period, not only with the number of fixtures but also with the teams we were playing.
I think that we are going into a period of games where we are playing teams around us, but what I would say about that is, there’s been no clear conclusion on any of them, the games have bee tight, we lost to Newcastle, we drew with Bournemouth, we beat West Brom, we beat Stoke.
I think the games are very hard to call and I think between now and the end of the season, the bottom ten or 12 teams, the results are not foregone conclusions, so we need to try and win the games that make sure we’re a Premier League Club.
On How The Cost Of Players Affects His Dealings:
“I think this is difficult with the cost, but I think everybody’s aware of that and I think that’s why nearly all your questions have been about players either getting sold or players coming in.
I don’t think that we’ve had one on Huddersfield, so that would tell me what you’re only really interested in is the news and you’ve answered the question by saying: there’s not much Transfers going on because of the cost”.
On Whether Or Not He Has Launched Any Bids:
“Yeah we have, we’ve made a bid for players, we’ve been turned down, but we wouldn’t tell you because I want to do my business right and correct and I keep them privately and I respect sometimes the Football Clubs who we’re talking to their players”.
On Whether He Will Look To Bolster The Defence:
“No, I think we’ve got Jose Fonte on the way back shortly, hopefully, we’ve got Ginger on the way back as well, so we’ve got some central defenders, would we want to maybe make changes in the future? Possibly but that will wait just now.
I think we’ve got other areas, I think we’re short in other areas, where we are just short of numbers, we don’t have any changes, we don’t have things that we can alter really, so if we can add to those areas, we will do, we’re working on it with every club but, we’ve got nobody lined up just now, we’ve got nobody we can turn around and say to you it’s definitely going to happen with”.
On The Notion Of Chicharito Not Being A “David Moyes” Player:
“I actually think, if you look, Alex Ferguson played him, brought him off the bench quite a lot and I was well aware when I joined Manchester United that Chicharito would want more minutes and more time, very well aware of that.
But, also, I had Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Danny Welbeck, Shinji Kagawa to name but a few, so you’ve got to remember that the competition at Football Clubs is hard, but that’s why you play at the big Clubs, the good players you get there, Chicharito’s a good player”.
On The Recent Game Time Of Javier Hernandez:
“You would have to say that the for of Marko Arnautovic and Michail Antonio at the start has probably made it difficult, when I joined, and I’m only here maybe nine, ten weeks, Javi was injured and actually, we had to go with Marko up-front and Michail up-front in different games, they both done really well.
So, Chicharito’s a really good player, his finishing ability is as good as there is anywhere, he thrives on balls in the box and things around the box, maybe in a lot of games, we’ve not quite had that service to give him, but it would be hard-pushed to necessarily say he would be playing in front of the two players I have up-front at the moment”.
On The Chance Of One Or Two Leaving For Squad Balance:
“Well, my interest is balancing it up in as much of getting players in the areas we were short rather than areas we’re full in, I need to get the areas we are short in better and make sure that we add to the Squad if we can. If somebody comes in with offers then we can’t stop them, but we can stop them by saying no to anything which we don’t want to happen”.
On The Possibility Of Some Strikers Departing:
“No, I don’t want any of them to go, we’ve got no players here who we want to leave, we need to add to our Squad, so ideally, we strengthen, so my intention is not to let anybody go.
What I will say is, we’ve got four or five strikers and obviously the competition’s tough for all of them but I’m happy that way and it will need to take an awful lot of money in this Window to make us prize them out”.
On The Diafra Sakho Speculation:
“I’m not aware of it at all, I know that there has been talk about it, Diafra’s injured, so I couldn’t really give you any update on it at all really.
There’s been talks, of course, there’s been talks, I think everybody has been aware of that for quite a long time here, but we’re more than happy to keep Diafra, I’m sure about that, no problem, we like him, he’s been good since we’ve been here, so there will be problem if he stays here”.
