In one of the more bizarre stories to break over the past few days, Jose Fonte is on the radar of Barcelona.

According to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, Fonte is a possible target for Barcelona in January.

The Spanish giants want to add depth at centre-half and Fonte fits the bill as an experienced defender who would provide reasonable back-up.

The other options mentioned include the likes of Laurent Koscielny, Pepe and Vedran Corluka.

So it is clear that Barcelona are not identifying Fonte as someone who would come in and start games for them.

Nonetheless, the former West Ham man could still make the move to the Nou Camp after impressing for Lille.

Fonte moved to Lille in the summer, signing a two-year contract with the Ligue 1 side. It was his second move since leaving West Ham, having departed East London for the riches of China.

While with the Hammers, the Portugal international never really lived up to his reputation.

Despite being a rock for Southampton, Fonte was often leaky at the back and injuries hampered his progress as his form improved.

After 24 games in Claret and Blue, the veteran defender moved away in February 2018. Now, he is being linked with a sensational move to Barcelona.

Here are some of the best tweets from West Ham fans discussing the 34-year-old’s links with Barcelona.
