West Ham United legend Alvin Martin has been talking up his old club as the ideal next step in Marcus Rashford’s career.

West Ham have endured a torrid start to life under Manuel Pellegrini.

Four defeats from his first four Premier League games has seen the Chilean installed as second favourite for the sack.

The Hammers are bottom of the fledgling table and the only side in England with zero points.

But West Ham legend Alvin Martin feels the East Londoners would be ‘ideal’ for a Manchester United star who stands at a career crossroads.

Career crossroads for Rashford

Rashford has been struggling for game time under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.

After a meteoric rise Rashford’s star has faded somewhat at club level.

When he does play it is often out of position on the flanks.

It has been a different story in an England shirt of late, though, with game time in his preferred position resulting in goals for the pacy striker.

Rashford’s England performances have prompted fans and pundits like Jamie Carragher (Sky Sports) to suggest he must leave the Red Devils for a club where he will play every week and progress his talent.

And Hammers legend Martin suggested on talkSPORT West Ham would be an ideal fit.

‘West Ham would love to have him’

“You have to make decisions as a player that are right for you and your family,” Martin told talkSPORT.

“But I tell you now if Rashford was available, my club West Ham, my ex club, would love to have him.

“I’m sure there’s a lot of Premier League clubs that would take Rashford in the blink of an eye.

“He needs to be playing regular because the sharpness that you attain when you’re doing that and the confidence and the fitness when you think quicker and you run quicker, everything is more honed in when you’re playing regular football.

“He’s coming on as a bit part player and it’s very hard to come in and make an impact like that. Rashford somewhere along the line has either got to convince Mourinho that he’s somebody who deserves to be in their side (or move).”

A permanent deal would undoubtedly prove costly for the buying club IF Manchester United ever decide to sell.

Unbelievable coup but loan deal most likely hope

Rashford would be an unbelievable coup for a club like West Ham.

Indeed he is everything the Hammers are crying out for.

Realistically the best West Ham could probably hope for is a loan deal in January.

Manchester United would not see the East Londoners as a direct competitor.

The Red Devils would likely be adverse to sending him out to any of the established top six or seven and West Ham are the biggest club outside that group.
